Cast and Characters

Here's the cast as of now. I'm still not 100% on some of these choices so comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Mark is the eldest of The Walker Boys but has always been stuck in the shadow of his two younger and much more popular brothers. Over time this has developed into quite the motivational tool for Mark as he ventured off into college and became heavily involved in creative writing. He had his first taste of success during his junior year of college when he published his first collection of short stories. But despite the success Mark has never quite received the "fatherly pride" granted to Karl and Justin for there athletic accomplishments. When word of a potential evacuation hits Mark takes it upon himself to lead the family's journey to safety if only to finally gain his father's respect.

Karl is in his Junior year of college struggling to make ends meet. As if it's not bad enough that he's on the verge of failing all his classes and being booted out of school, Karl also owes an undisclosed amount of cash to drug dealer and classmate Vince. When news of the "disease" hits the school the campus quickly devolves into chaos. Karl sees this as the perfect way to solve all his problems and quickly develops a plan to steal the money he owes.

Unfortunately for Karl he's not the smartest strategist and chooses Vince as his target. Even though the heist is technically a success Karl and his two accomplices were spotted leaving the scene. Karl and his buddies find themselves in a race against the clock in an attempt to get off campus (and out of Vince's reach) before the National Guard puts the school on lock down.

Justin is the youngest in the Walker clan at 17. He was an all-state swimmer as a Freshman in High School but has since been booted from the team for reasons unknown. When news of the evacuation procedure hits the only thing Justin can think about is reuniting with his girlfriend, Shelly Anderson.

Curtis is the head of the Walker household and a retired Social Studies teacher with mysterious connections that lend him valuable information about the "disease" and the potential evacuation procedures. His only goal is to get his family together and safely transport them to the fallout shelter in Caydem Falls.

Helen is a retired Nurse who just couldn't handle the stresslessness of sitting at home all day so she took a part time job waitressing at a local diner. Still unsatisfied with her work she's secretly turned to alcohol to help her get through the boredom of everyday life.

Sarah is Mark's wife. Fresh off her honeymoon the last thing she wants to do is leave again but is quickly convinced when she has a face to face encounter with a recently Zombified neighbor.

Amy is a family friend of the Walkers and a co-worker of Helen's. When the "disease" is announced Amy rushes to the Retirement Community that her Grandmother lives in. She soon regrets this when she finds that the Retirement Community is swarming with Zombies.

Tanya is Vince's right hand "man" and possibly more. She spends most of her time keeping tabs on the people who work for Vince but when it's discovered that someone has stolen from him it's her job to track down the people responsible.

The campus' main marijuana connection and Karl's only hook up. He's been letting Karl slide on payments for some time now but when Karl steals his entire stash on the onset of chaos, Vince makes it his one and only mission to retrieive his merchandise and make Karl pay.

Pitt is Karl's dorm mate, best friend and constant partner in crime. He's also one of the main reasons Karl is in trouble with Vince as the two just can't keep each other from smoking their own merchandise.

Ben is another very close friend of Karl's. Maybe not the smartest guy in the world but he's much more observant than the company he keeps. If it weren't for him Karl and Pitt might have never even noticed the streets being over run by Zombies.

I think the last name 'Walker' should be reconsidered. 'Sarah Walker', for example, is a name combo already used by both Brothers & Sisters and Chuck, and combining that with a 'Justin Walker' (another B&S name) makes this potentially very confusing for Chuck/B&S fans reading CF.

I've never seen Chuck or Brother & Sisters but I don't think very many people will have a hard time telling the three apart. If people catch on to the fact that my show has Zombies in it they'll probly also realize that it's got nothing to do with either of those shows.

Oddly enough, when I was first thinking about casting Sarah I wanted to use Rachel Griffiths for the part but decided not to since she had already played Peter Krause's wife on Six Feet Under.

It's less not being able to tell the shows apart than having trouble connecting those names to your characters, as they already have strong associations in a lot of people's minds with other characters (with vivid visual and audio memory as well!). Either way, good luck with CF.

Yeah, I see your point and I'll probly make some changes. Changing the last name would be a lotta work since half the season is already written but I think it might be worth it just for originality's sake.

That's a serious overhaul. If B&S and/or Chuck fans seriously have issues associating such a common name with something different, so be it. You can't control what ppl imagine anyways and it's not like it didn't work over on VBCtv. I think ppl will get past it.

This show was very successful on VBCtv, I was very sad to see it go. The cast is amazing and really makes the shows work. It's the only show not to stay with VBCtv, but we replaced it quickly.

Yeah, my biggest concern is the cast itself. I think a lot of people I cast might be a bit too old for their parts. Gerald McRaney and Angelica Huston especially. I'm not sure they're young enough to have a son in High School and Van Der Beek's way too old to still be in college but when I think of him I see him the way he looked in "The Rules of Attraction" and I don't think most people are gonna see it the same. On the other hand it's not like TV actors playing much younger than they actually are is something new.

I'm just sort of hoping that people check out the cast page before they read the script and the picture they see on the cast page is the picture they see in their head while reading the script.

If you need help with casting alternatives, put up a thread backstage or anyway in fact on the board and I'm sure people could help.

I might open a thread for casting actually.
